Even if you’ve been a Christian for years and attended life groups, building generations of believers requires understanding the leadership journey. Learning to strategically plan—from initial engagement to empowering others—is key. Leadership FAQs

What is Christian Leadership?

Is leadership about influence? Power? Responsibility? Authority? Position?

When Jesus taught his disciples about leadership, He framed it differently:

“You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant (diakonos), and whoever wants to be first must be slave (doulos) of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:42–45)

In Jesus’ time, most people saw leadership as authority and power — the Romans ruled that way, and even many Jews, including Jesus’ own disciples, thought the same. Leadership to them meant having others serve you.

But Jesus turned that idea upside down. He taught that true leadership is about serving others. To lead well, one must adopt the mindset and actions of a servant. This is the lesson He shared with James and John when they sought positions of authority in heaven (Mark 10:35–37). They were aiming for status, but Jesus reminded them that real leadership lies in humble service.
